Bios Life Franchise Owners and Unicity's Make Life Better Foundation Donate $40,000 to the Florida Children's Hospital

Unicity - The Make Life Better Company News August 1, 2007

Money may not grow on trees, but at the 2007 Unicity Convention of the Americas in Orlando, Florida, it grew right on stage. Brea Barnes, Director of Development at Florida Children’s Hospital witnessed first-hand as a $6,000 donation from Unicity’s Make Life Better Foundation blossomed into a $40,000 contribution in just a matter of minutes.

For the past three days while attending the Convention, Bios Life Franchise Owners had participated in several fund-raising events for the Florida Children’s Hospital—an Orlando-based children’s hospital which provides care for more than 100,000 families and their children every year.

From playing Plinko, bidding on great items at a Silent Auction (all items were donated by vendors, including an impressive bag-full of items from Nike), to the fund raiser finale—a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday morning—Bios Life Franchise Owners and Unicity were anxious to participate in donating and raising funds for this year’s cause.

But all of these activities were no match for what happened Saturday afternoon at the final general session of the Convention.

Polite applause greeted Stewart Hughes, Chairman and CEO of Unicity and Curt Hedges, Unicity President, as they presented Brea Barnes with a $6,000 check—the funds raised that week at the Convention.

However, Stewart and Curt are rarely satisfied with first efforts—especially when they know that people are able to do so much better. Stewart paused in the middle of the check presentation and made an impromptu challenge to the Presidential Diamond rank Franchise Owners to contribute another $4,000—and if they’d do that, Unicity would add $10,000 in order to make a total donation of $20,000 to the Florida Children’s Hospital.

Presidential Diamonds become diamonds by not shrinking in the face of challenges and they rose to the occasion. However, as pledges were being made, Stewart raised the bar again and challenged the Franchise Owners to donate $15,000 and Unicity would match that with $15,000 for a total of $30,000. Curt began to tally the total contributions right on the large donation check.

Then Stewart pulled out all the stops and announced that if the Diamonds could raise $20,000, then Unicity would match the contribution with $20,000 for an impressive grand total donation of $40,000!

In just a matter of minutes a $6,000 contribution grew to an outstanding $40,000 donation. An astonished and appreciative Brea said, “This is the best math I have ever seen!”

The Florida Children’s Hospital has expressed their deep gratitude and has announced that they plan to name a room after Unicity in the upcoming new wing of the hospital.

On behalf of the Florida Children’s Hospital, the Unicity Make Life Better Foundation would like to express a special thanks and appreciation to the Diamonds that accepted the challenge and contributed to this special cause:
