Make Life Better Foundation distributed Unicity products to
20 government and local relief agencies in Medan, Indonesia
Medan,
Indonesia (March 24, 2005) Unicity representatives
traveled to Medan, Indonesia on March 24, 2005 to participate
in a ceremony to transfer Unicity's
donation
of products for tsunami relief. The Make Life Better Foundation
in conjunction with Dr. Rahmat Shah and the Yayasan RAHMAT
Foundation distributed products to 20 government and local
relief agencies that were present at a memorable ceremony
at the Medan Club in Indonesia.
Government
officials representing the most devastated areas in Banda
Aceh, Indonesia were present and spoke of the relief efforts
under way and expressed appreciation to Unicity, the Make
Life Better Foundation and Yayasan Rahmat Foundation. The
donations were shipped from Unicity to the Yayasan Rahmat
Foundation to assist in the timely distribution to the local
relief organizations. Each relief organization received food,
nutritional supplements, and water filters to assist in this
phase of the tsunami relief effort.
David Clare, Unicity Chief Marketing Officer together Ronie
Tan, Unicity South Asia Regional Manager, Yoshua Jap, Unicity
Indonesia General Manger, and many Unicity Associates, including
Bernard Yong, Abul Rahim, Susanto Chandra and others inspected
donation warehouse locations and assisted in the distribution
of food and supplies.
"The most exciting thing for me was to see how our Associates
were so instrumental in this effort and all the work they
have done behind the scenes. They have been involved from
the beginning and have worked long hours contributing their
time and love in this effort. I was touched to see how much
our Associates have done to make life better. It demonstrates
to me that through our Associates we can accomplish so many
great things to truly make life better around the world."
said David Clare. "This great tragedy has prompted an out
pouring of relief and donations from our Associates around
the world. We are particularly blessed to have a unique company
where our local Associates can remain to be involved and continue
to assist us in our long-term efforts to help those who suffer
beyond our imagination. It was a very overwhelming experience
to participate in."
1.2
million in donations were distributed to 20 relief organizations
that represented government agencies, the Red Cross, the Insitute
Agama Islam Negeri, the International Women's Club, and many
other organizations who have been involved in the immediate
relief efforts. "It was so gratifying to work with so many
relief organizations that will have the greatest and widest
impact in the distribution of these essential supplies," said
Ronie Tan. "Each organization represents a unique way to help
the victims that cover such a wide area of destruction."
During the ceremony, a video presentation was provided by
Dr. Rahmat Shah founder of the Yayasan Rahmat Foundation that
captured real footage of the tsunami disaster and showed 'before'
and 'after" images. "To watch and to feel the effects of this
tragedy simply cannot be expressed," said David Clare. "You
felt helpless and very moved in the realization that so much
was lost, so many lives affected. It gave me perspective in
a way I had not had until I came here. There is so much to
do and we as a company can do so much more. It gave me hope
to realize that indeed our company and our Associates could
make life better in a very personal and unique way. I was
very humbled and overwhelmed".
"Due to
the efforts and the leadership of the 'Yayasan Rahmat Medan'
Foundation and the personal participation of Dr. Rahmat Shah
who has taken a person interest in this relief cause, we simply
could not have had the impact of good we were able to accomplish,"
said David Clare. "I just want to personally thank Dr. Shah
for his vision and his generous involvement in helping us
share our donations with so many. He is a wonderful long-term
partner in our cause to make life better in this special area
of the world."
The donation ceremony and distribution of funds and supplies
was conducted at the Indonesia Medan Club with over 200 people
in attendance. Local and national TV and news stations covered
the event which was broadcast across all Indonesian stations.
Distribution vehicles from the Red Cross and the other relief
organizations were on location to receive the donations and
to begin the immediate distribution of supplies.
The donations of food, resources, and water products were
made in conjunction with Unicity's Make Life Better Foundation
, which has set up a special
fund for long-term Tsunami relief efforts,
allowing Unicity Associates and offices around the world to
donate funds and resources.
